In my session, I’ll provide a real-life look at the world of 48-hour coding competitions - most specifically, the Rails Rumble. During the session, I’ll be smack-dab in the middle of developing our application, so I’ll be glad that the talk is limited to 20-25 minutes! The application - “We’re All Miles Davis” - will use Ruby’s midilib and the power of Rails to create some kick-butt virtual trumpet action, probably with some community lovin’ thrown in there, to boot. Topics covered will include:

• Planning and prep for an intensive programming engagement (prototyping 4Life!)
• Considerations for designing virtual instruments (compromise, baby!)
• Fat models, skinny controllers, and Haml and Sass (power tools)
